Out-of-State Attorney Arbitration Counsel (OSAAC)
The Out-of-State Attorney Arbitration Counsel (OSAAC) Program establishes a procedure to implement the State Bar's responsibilities under Code of Civil Procedure Section 1282.4 for out-of-state attorneys to represent parties in the course of, or in connection with, an arbitration proceeding in California.
Non-California attorneys must serve an OSAAC Certificate (see below) on all parties. If the Arbitral forum or Arbitrator(s) approve the appearance of the attorney, the attorney must serve a copy of the certificate with the written approval of the other parties and the State Bar in compliance with California Code of Civil Procedure Section 1013(a).
Use The State Bar of California's OSAAC Certificate Application Form or, since some arbitral bodies require you to use their certificate, it is advisable to speak with the office of the arbitrator for information regarding their requirements and documentation.
